Arbitration in practice: tools for the modern business world

On May 27, 2025, LEX Law Firm took part in the event entitled “Arbitration in Practice: Tools for the Modern Business World” organized by the International Business Council (IBC) together with the Vienna International Arbitration Centre (VIAC). The event was held in the Innovation Center of Bishkek.

In his welcoming remarks,Askar Sydykov, Executive Director of the IBC, noted that this is the first time that the VIAC delegation is coming to Kyrgyzstan, and this is evidence of the growing role of Central Asia and Kyrgyzstan in the world, and the sustainable development of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, in particular arbitration courts.

The main part of the event consisted of speeches of such speakers as: Deputy Trade Representative of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA in Almaty David Polzleitner, Director of VIAC Community Ambassador Network Ema Potocnik, Associate Professor of the American University in Central Asia, Arbitration Ambassador of the Vienna International Arbitration Center (VIAC) in Kyrgyzstan Natalia Alenkina and partner of Dentons law firm, founder of the Institute of Expert Legal Studies “ZanSar” Aigul Kenzhebaeva.

Representatives of business as well as professional legal community discussed the advantages of arbitration in international practice, its role in shaping business strategies and increasing the competitiveness of companies.

In the question and answer session, the speakers shared their views on the prospects of arbitration development in Central Asia, gave examples from their personal practice of participation in the arbitration process, both as arbitrators and representatives of the parties.
